Ellie Landowski, MA

Psychotherapist

Clinical expertise in treating adults and groups with behavioral health concerns, including substance use, sexual preoccupation and compulsive sexual behaviors, interpersonal dysfunction, impulsivity, and emotion regulation. Extensive training and experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Prior to my graduate program, my professional experience included providing respite care for disabled families, volunteering in special education classrooms, working with preschool-aged children with autism spectrum disorder, and working in a community methadone clinic. Throughout my graduate program, I provided group treatment to adults in community supervision and correctional institutions.  This career fueled my passion for serving vulnerable and underserved community members. My focuses included sexual offenses, intimate partner violence, emotion regulation, impulsivity, and substance use. Throughout this time, I received supervision from a multidisciplinary team and certifications based in cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. I completed my clinical field placement at a state psychiatric hospital and after earning my masters of social work from the University of Wisconsin, I worked as an outpatient substance use disorder social worker for the Veteran's Administration.

My Story

Hello and welcome! My name is Ellie (she/her) and as your psychotherapist, I look forward to helping you achieve your recovery and life goals. We can work together to improve your mood, strengthen your relationships with friends and family, and increase your confidence, skills, and abilities to cope with distressing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I believe everyone has innate strengths and abilities to live fulfilling, happy, and healthy lives. We may experience painful and unexpected events that challenge our abilities to cope and connect with others - we do the best we can and sometimes, this falls short of our goals and values. Clients would describe me as direct, warm, and a big fan of humor, videogames, and all things nerdy. I look forward to relaxing outdoors with my dogs and crocheting the hours away. If I weren't a therapist, I would be an artist and garden enthusiast. The most satisfying part of my work as a therapist is watching clients become more confident in themselves and their abilities.

Professional Experience

My personal experiences and professional career have included people living with disabilities, veterans, people involved with the criminal justice system, those in substance use recovery, and others that had painful childhood and relationship experiences that transformed their perceptions of themselves and the world around them. These experiences formed both my undergraduate and graduate education in sociology and clinical social work and built the foundation for my clinical approach. Authenticity, honesty, and integrity are the core of what I do as both a clinician and individual. I prioritize collaborative and outcomes-driven work that is tailored to your values, experiences, goals, and strengths. If you are ready to take that first step, I would be honored and excited to be a part of your recovery journey.

Counseling for Anxiety

Is anxiety taking over your life? Does it feel like you can’t control it no matter how hard you try? Have you already tried therapy but found it ineffective? If this sounds like you, Mindfully Healing can help. Our practice offers the most effective forms of treatment, to get relief from the anxiety that you deserve. When it comes to treating anxiety disorders, research shows that therapy is usually the most effective option. That’s because anxiety therapy – as opposed to anxiety medication – treats more than just symptoms to the problem.

Counseling for Trauma

Most people will experience trauma in their lifetime whether it’s a car accident, abuse or neglect, the sudden death of a loved one, a violent criminal act, exposure to the violence of war, or a natural disaster. While many people can recover from trauma over time with the love and support of family and friends and bounce back with resiliency, others may discover effects of lasting trauma, which can cause a person to live with deep emotional pain, fear, confusion, or posttraumatic stress far after the event has passed. In these circumstances, the support, guidance and assistance of a therapist is fundamental to healing from trauma.

Grief & Bereavement Counseling

Bereavement and grief aren’t light-hearted topics. Bereavement refers to the process of recovering from the death of a loved one, and grief is a reaction for any form of loss. Both encompass a wide range of emotions such as fear, anger and deep, deep sadness. The process of adapting to a loss can dramatically change from person to person, depending on his or her background, beliefs, relationship to the person who’s passed, and other factors. Common symptoms of grief can be physical, emotional or social.

Therapy for Depression

Are you feeling hopeless, isolated and not your usual self? You might be feeling depressed or deep despair.

"Mindfully Healing embraces a personal growth based model unlike a problem or deficiency based model of traditional mental health... Our clients experience this during their first session."

Why Private Pay is Beneficial for Some Clients?
  • Insurance does not cover relational difficulties such as couples and family therapy, they require a DSM-V diagnosis for one of the members. As a fee-for-service provider, I do not have to give you a mental health diagnosis.
  • Mental health diagnoses can follow you and be documented on health records and can result in affecting life insurance applications, health insurance applications and other benefits or services.
  • Together, we can determine how many times we meet instead of the insurance company making that decision.
  • Since a treatment plan, notes and billing information are not being released to an insurance company, a greater amount of confidentiality is in place for you.
