My Story

I knew that I wanted to be a therapist since I was 17 years old. This was because I experienced a lot of challenges and dysfunction myself in my own family system. I have worked hard through the years to understand these issues and to process through my own challenges. I can relate to others in similar situations, which is why I have such a passion for doing the work I do. Life is difficult, and no one is perfect. We all have our problems and sometimes it can be really helpful to have a neutral person to help us sort through these things. It can be very intimidating to take the first step to asking for help and guidance, however, putting in the effort to make changes in ourselves and our lives is worthwhile and rewarding. I feel very blessed to be able to walk with people in their journey and assist them in finding out who they are and what they need.

Counseling for Trauma

Most people will experience trauma in their lifetime whether it’s a car accident, abuse or neglect, the sudden death of a loved one, a violent criminal act, exposure to the violence of war, or a natural disaster. While many people can recover from trauma over time with the love and support of family and friends and bounce back with resiliency, others may discover effects of lasting trauma, which can cause a person to live with deep emotional pain, fear, confusion, or posttraumatic stress far after the event has passed. In these circumstances, the support, guidance and assistance of a therapist is fundamental to healing from trauma.

Counseling for Anxiety

Is anxiety taking over your life? Does it feel like you can’t control it no matter how hard you try? Have you already tried therapy but found it ineffective? If this sounds like you, Mindfully Healing can help. Our practice offers the most effective forms of treatment, to get relief from the anxiety that you deserve. When it comes to treating anxiety disorders, research shows that therapy is usually the most effective option. That’s because anxiety therapy – as opposed to anxiety medication – treats more than just symptoms to the problem.

Therapy for Depression

Are you feeling hopeless, isolated and not your usual self? You might be feeling depressed or deep despair.

Counseling for New Mothers

For new moms, it can be upsetting and frightening to have feelings about motherhood that don’t seem “right.” For some women, a morning run, a healthy diet and receiving help and support from family and friends are sufficient enough to get through the initial adjustment period. For others, talking to a therapist who specializes in dealing with new motherhood issues can be comforting, relieving and enlightening. Therapists who have extensive education and training in post-partum disorders understand that hormone changes, personal and family history, and social support are all vital factors in understanding and alleviating postpartum symptoms.

Professional Experience

Have you ever had a rock stuck in your shoe while walking?  Did you continue to walk with the discomfort of having a rock in your shoe, or did you stop to remove the rock before continuing to walk?  If you’re anything like me, you stopped to get rid of the rock because it hurt.

I want to help you get rid of those figurative rocks in your shoes so you can continue walking through your life journey without that discomfort or pain.  My passion is helping individuals and families heal from painful past learning that is causing distress and dysfunction in the here and now.  I have experience helping people who present with a variety of struggles, such as trauma, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, self-esteem issues, parenting, relational/communication issues, setting boundaries, maladaptive behaviors, and relationship challenges.

I think the relationship between a therapist and their client is the biggest indicator of success, therefore, I focus on building a strong rapport with my clients, making sure the client knows they are supported and validated. I am here to walk this journey with you, to be a guide and a support. This is your therapy, and so my focus is on what you need and want and not my agenda. I hope that you will feel heard and respected.  I am deeply passionate about what I do.

I practice from a trauma-informed lens, which means I approach therapy with a sense of curiosity.  I want to know more about what happened to you that contributed to the issues that you are currently struggling with.  I work to maintain a safe and supportive therapeutic environment for my clients.  Though processing and healing from painful past experiences can be daunting, clients will often experience a truly remarkable shift in emotions, behaviors, and thoughts by the end of the process.

I also use a variety of techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and Post Induction Therapy for trauma and relationship issues. The premise of Post Induction Therapy is that childhood trauma (defined as anything less than nurturing) is the origin of developmental immaturity.

Feel free to reach out to me by phone or email so that we can briefly chat and figure out if scheduling an appointment would be a good fit for you.

Grief & Bereavement Counseling

Bereavement and grief aren’t light-hearted topics. Bereavement refers to the process of recovering from the death of a loved one, and grief is a reaction for any form of loss. Both encompass a wide range of emotions such as fear, anger and deep, deep sadness. The process of adapting to a loss can dramatically change from person to person, depending on his or her background, beliefs, relationship to the person who’s passed, and other factors. Common symptoms of grief can be physical, emotional or social.

Why Private Pay is Beneficial for Some Clients?
  • Insurance does not cover relational difficulties such as couples and family therapy, they require a DSM-V diagnosis for one of the members. As a fee-for-service provider, I do not have to give you a mental health diagnosis.
  • Mental health diagnoses can follow you and be documented on health records and can result in affecting life insurance applications, health insurance applications and other benefits or services.
  • Together, we can determine how many times we meet instead of the insurance company making that decision.
  • Since a treatment plan, notes and billing information are not being released to an insurance company, a greater amount of confidentiality is in place for you.
